The territory of Bulgaria is divided into 28 districts and 264 municipalities, divided into 6 regions:

  • Northwestern region
  • Northcentral region
  • Northeastern Region
  • Southeastern Region
  • Southcentral Region
  • Southwestern Region

NORTHWESTERN REGION

Area: 19 070 m2 (17.18% of the country's territory)

Administrative division:

         - 5 districts: Vidin, Vratsa, Lovech, Montana, Pleven

         - 51 municipalities

Population: 836 601 people (11.4% of the country's population) in 2011

GDP: 5 057 million BGN (7.1% of the country's GDP) in 2010

GDP per capita: 5 652 BGN in 2010

Economic activity rate: 45.1% in 2012   

Employment rate: 39.6% in 2012

Unemployment rate: 12.3% in 2012

NORTHCENTRAL REGION

Area: 14 974 m2 (13.49 % of the country's territory)

Administrative division:

         - 5 districts: Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra

         - 36 municipalities

Population: 853 468 people (11.6% of the country's population) in 2011

GDP: 5 577 million BGN (7.9% of the country's GDP) in 2010

GDP per capita: 6 139 BGN in 2010

Economic activity rate: 50.1% in 2012

Employment rate: 42.9% in 2012

Unemployment rate: 14.3% in 2012

Area: 14 487 m2 (13.05% of the country's territory)

SOUTHWESTERN REGION

         - 52 municipalities

Population: 2 131 233 people (29.08% of the country's population) in 2011.

GDP per capita: 16 078 BGN in 2010

Economic activity rate: 57.6% in 2012

SOUTHCENTRAL REGION
